Chapters & Atlas
The design of Chapters and Atlas is a modern interpretation of the cultural fusion of a bookstore and a coffee shop. Designed with a minimalistic approach, the building features clean lines and open spaces that encourage a flow of movement and light. Large glass windows not only bring in natural light but also create a visual connection with the urban surroundings of Msheireb, inviting passersby to step inside and explore.
The interior of Chapters and Atlas is deeply inspired by the fluid, dynamic forms of waves. The color palette of blues, greens, and yellows, derived from the brands identity evoke a sense of calm and relaxation reminiscent of the seaside, while also injecting vibrant energy that stimulates creativity and joy. The design incorporates wave-like architectural elements such as curved shelves and furniture with rounded edges and fluid forms. Furthermore, the bookshelves are designed to be modular, allowing for flexible rearrangement to suit various events and needs.
In response to the need for social distancing, the layout includes features like spaced-out seating, clear physical barriers that blend seamlessly with the overall aesthetic, and designated paths that guide movement throughout the space to avoid crowding. Technology plays a role too, with a contactless checkout system and digital menus available via QR codes.
A Change of Perspective
"A Change of Perspective" is a seven-meter-long city mural, strategically designed to bridge cultural divides and spark meaningful discussions about the diversity that defines us. This engaging artwork stretches across a wall that offers a unique dual perspective, depending on where you stand. On one side, it features a vibrant illustration that harmoniously blends various cultural elements into a unified visual narrative. On the opposite side, the powerful exhortation "Celebrate Your Differences" is emblazoned, chosen for its strong message of unity in diversity. This phrase was specifically selected to reinforce the idea that our differences enrich us, rather than divide. The design concept of using a wall—an object typically meant to separate—as a medium to connect people is a poignant irony that underscores our commitment to rekindling humanity and fostering global relationships. Through this mural, we aim to elevate cultural awareness, encourage the formation of cross-cultural friendships, and celebrate the unique attributes that each culture brings to the tapestry of human experience.
